   Degrease properly

   Kitchen cabinets carry an invisible film of cooking oil, heaviest around the range and above the handles. Nothing bonds to it. This step is the single biggest predictor of whether a cabinet finish lasts.

   Prime for the substrate you actually have

   Thermofoil, laminate, factory-catalyzed finish and raw maple all need different bonding primers. Getting this wrong is why finishes peel in sheets a year later.

   Spray, then let it cure

   Sprayed for a finish with no brush texture. Then it cures. Most cabinet coatings are dry to touch in hours and not fully hard for days to weeks, and putting the kitchen straight back into service is how a good job gets damaged in its first week.
